If you are doing genealogical or historical research, one great source is city directories. Herrick District Library has Holland City Directories beginning in 1894. Not all years are available, especially some of the earlier years. From 1894 until 1920 the directories list residents alphabetically by name only, but beginning in 1921 there are address listings. These directories can tell you who was living in a house in a specific year. In addition to Holland/Zeeland directories, Herrick also has directories for the Grand Rapids area from 1925-2010. Again, not all years are represented. Our directories are in the genealogy department and can be used whenever the library is open.
You are also able to search some city directories on the databases Ancestry Library Edition and MyHeritage. Both of these databases are available through Herrick District Library with a Herrick Library Card. Ancestry Library Edition contains city directories from many United States cities from 1822-1995. It also contains directories from the United Kingdom, Canada and some other countries. MyHeritage contains United States directories from 1860-1960.
