At Herrick District Library, you can find most obituaries from the Holland City News or the Holland Sentinel from the years 1872 through the present. The Herrick District Library has indexes beginning in 1872 for the Holland City News and indexes through 2021 for the Holland Sentinel. We have a large obituary file at the library which contains Holland obituaries starting in the mid 1900s through 2003. The obituaries in this file have been digitized through Family Search and are available here. There is one drawback -- you do need to have a FamilySearch account to access this database. There is no charge to create an account but without it you will not be able to access the obituaries. There are hundreds of obituaries listed on this link. Many are Holland obituaries, but there are also some from surrounding areas. At Herrick are also files containing genealogical information on the deaths of residents of the city of Holland, Banks Township, Olive Township, and the city of Zeeland from 1905-1955.
Another place to look is the website Find A Grave . It not only contains cemetery information, but in some cases contains more information on the individual, sometimes including obituaries and photos of gravesites.
If you would like help looking for a specific obituary in the Holland Sentinel or Holland City News, the library can research up to five obituaries for you. If you would like to access this service or have any questions, let us know below.
