What I’m Listening To – Nov ’24

Hello all, and welcome to another edition of What I'm Listening To! This month, we're taking a look up into the stars. I love space, the universe, and the unknown. The mystery of space has spurred human innovation to reach for the stars, but today we'll be talking about the songs influenced by it. Let's go!

"Starboy" - Weeknd ft. Daft Punk (Starboy)

For the longest time, I thought The Weeknd was more of a rapper, than a R&B/pop singer. That was until his hit "Blinding Lights" really introduced me to him. From there, I looked back at his discography of work, and discovered how much I enjoyed this album. When you team up with Daft Punk, usually the song is a hit. In this case, it is no different.

"Intergalactic" - Beastie Boys (Beastie Boys Music)

Man, do I love me some Beastie Boys. Their mix of different genres of music to their rap vocals was something of beauty. The boys from the Bronx cooked a blue plate special with their hit "Intergalactic". The mix of techno/otherworldy music really amped the song up, and I rock this whenever I hear it come up on the radio.

"Starman" - David Bowie (Best of David Bowie 1969-1974)

Ziggy Stardust was an alien from outer space that David Bowie created and sang as, and by golly did he strike gold. On this album, please enjoy the journey, starting with "Space Oddity". Truly an artist.

"Man on the Moon" - Kid Cudi (Man on the Moon: The End of the Day)

Any time I can promote Kid Cudi on this blog, I will. One of my favorite rap/pop/soul/R & B artist of the last twenty years, Kid Cudi brings melodic, intergalactic tones to his music. Please check out this album...it's my favorite of his, and this is in my top 3 rap albums.

"Rocket Man" - Elton John (Greatest Hits 1970-2002)

I mean, how could I not have a space blog about the universe, and NOT put this one in? My favorite musical artist of all time, Sir Elton absolutely crushed this song. Again, ghostly space melodies accompany excellent lyrics. If your head doesn't move to the chorus of this track, I don't know what to tell ya.
