Tech Help

The Herrick District Library staff is here to help you with your digital and tech needs. We can help you with basic computer, phone, and tablet issues, both in person or online.

In-Person Help

Library staff members are always available at the information desk at both locations to answer questions about library apps and services. If you have a question about a non-library technology (email, Zoom, ancestry.com, etc.) stop into the Main Library on Wednesdays or Thursdays between 2pm and 4pm and a member of our team will do our best to help. If you have questions beyond the basics, check out Groundworks and see if they have what you need.

Digital Library Help

  • Hoopla Flex is a new way to check out popular and bestselling titles from Hoopla. Most titles on Hoopla are available instantly, no matter how many people want to check them out at one time, with no need to place them on hold. Hoopla Flex titles act more like traditional library books, where each copy of a title can only be used by one person at a time. If someone else has a Hoopla Flex title checked out, you can place a hold on it using the Hoopla app. You can only borrow up to 3 Hoopla Flex titles at a time, but Hoopla Flex titles do not count towards your 15 monthly Hoopla borrows.

  • Sometimes, when Libby updates, it can cause your app to lose connection. To reestablish this connection, go into the settings of Libby, tap on your library card and select ACTIONS. Choose Remove Card. A warning will pop up letting you know that all of your downloaded titles will be removed, but this will not return anything, so proceed. Then, re-enter your library card information again, same as you did the first time you set up Libby. This should reset your app’s connection with Libby and you shouldn’t have to verify your card anymore.

  • Herrick District Library offers two services for eBooks and eAudiobooks: Libby by OverDrive and Hoopla

Libby offers a wide selection of new and bestselling books and audiobooks. Borrowing from Libby is very similar to borrowing physical books. If an eBook is checked out, you can place a hold on it and will then be notified when it is ready for you. Check out these online tutorials to help you get started with Libby.

Hoopla Digital offers a plethora of downloadable materials, all available immediately. Each patron is limited to 15 checkout a month, but this includes eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital movies and TV shows, digital graphic novels, and digital music. Check out these online tutorials to help you get started with Hoopla Digital.

  • The library has partnered with Libby by OverDrive to bring you hundreds of digital magazines. Herrick District Library recommends that patrons interested in reading digital magazines use the Libby app and the Libby website for the best reading experience.

  • Herrick District Library offers two services for digital movies: Hoopla and Kanopy

Hoopla Digital offers a plethora of downloadable materials, all available immediately. Each patron is limited to 15 checkout a month, but this includes eBooks, eAudiobooks, digital movies and TV shows, digital graphic novels, and digital music. The library has created a few online tutorials to help you get started with Hoopla Digital.

Kanopy is a streaming service that offers access to thousands of movies, mostly independent films, Criterion classics, and documentaries. Grab the app for your device or head to the Kanopy website to start watching today. Patrons are limited to 8 checkouts a month.
