Position: Librarian I – Public Services

Grade: E 9,  Salary: $62,462-$76,378

The Herrick District Library is seeking a passionate and friendly Librarian to provide exemplary service to patrons at the Main Library. This position is vital to the day-to-day activities at the desk and on the public floor. This position will also involve programming for adults and families, both in the library and out in the community.

This full-time position requires a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or a Master’s degree in a related field of study. Previous customer service experience is desired. Spanish language fluency is preferred.

Essential Functions:

· Sets an example and helps train staff in the areas of service and hospitality

· Provides reference and readers’ advisory assistance

· Offers technology and research assistance and helps patrons use library technology resources

· Plans, presents, and evaluates programs for adults and families

· Positively represents the library

· Identifies community needs and seeks mutually beneficial collaborations with local organizations

· Performs library circulation functions and solves patron account issues

· Participates actively with the Herrick team in system-wide goal setting, priorities, and planning for adults and families

· Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

· Keeps informed of best practices, current trends, emerging technologies, and developments in librarianship with emphasis on community development, readers’ advisory, reference services, and information literacy

· Assists in scheduling and directing work of volunteers

· Will at times serve as the supervisor in charge

· Miscellaneous duties/responsibilities as required or assigned

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.

· Occasionally requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds

· Frequently requires use of office equipment as well as long periods of sitting, standing, or walking as needed

· Occasionally requires stooping and crouching

· Occasionally requires reaching, including overhead reaching

Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in library science or Master’s degree in related field required

· Advanced knowledge of adult collections and programming

· Prior customer service experience is desired

· Spanish language fluency is preferred
