Sustainability in Action: A Community Experience

Join us as we explore sustainability through an interactive display. Share your eco-friendly habits on our community whiteboard (like biking, reducing plastic, or composting) and reflect on new changes you’d like to make. Your ideas may inspire others!

Special thanks to Isabel Stein, City of Holland Sustainability Coordinator, for her impact display, and to artist Barbara Carlson and the Amory 2 Art Studio creators for showcasing Beach Art 2025, created from trash collected along Lake Michigan.

Marvel Storywalk

Date: September 12 - October 11
Location: Hemlock Crossing, 8115 W Olive Rd

Walk through a Marvel Universe adventure at Hemlock Crossing. This event is part of HDL's Marvel Week.

HDL Community Ofrenda

HDL will host a community ofrenda at the main library in honor of Día de Muertos. The ofrenda will be in place October 20 - November 1.

Community members are invited to light an electric candle, write a note to a loved one, or make a free copy of a photo to leave on the ofrenda. Non-precious mementos are also welcome, as long as they are small. (No food items, please). Photos and mementos will not be kept or returned after Día de los Muertos, but patrons are welcome to retrieve them before we clean up the ofrenda on November 1. Want to learn more about Día de los Muertos? Visit HDL's event "What is Día de Muertos" on Tuesday, 10/21 at 6 PM.

Early Learning

The Children's Area at the Main Library is full of hands-on learning adventures which rotate quarterly. This fall, little ones can pretend they're photography professionals in shop at The Village. Light is key to photography and kiddos can learn about the properties of light through the Discover station with this quarter's STEM activity - a darkroom.

Groundworks Fun

Next time you're at the Main Library, stop by Groundworks for some fun.

Groundworks always has something fun available to interact with, drawing you into our new creative space to discover, connect, and create at your library. This week's fun: 3D printed puzzles!

Knitting for Holland

Date: November 15 - March 15
Location: Main Library and North Branch

Herrick Main and North Branch will have free knit and crocheted winter accessories. If you need something warm and cozy, please take a scarf or hat donated by someone in your community.
