Deb had an idea for a quilt, but needed a sewing machine. She was excited for the opportunity to borrow a sewing machine from the Library of Things, but while on the waitlist she discovered Groundworks. Deb was delighted to find out that we offer a maker space with a sewing machine and lots of room to spread out. HDL staff member Dan helped her troubleshoot with a difficult bobbin and she was off!
A retired librarian of 41 years, Deb retired from Waukazoo Elementary in West Ottawa. She also subbed at Herrick District Library in the Reference section on occasion. Though retired, her love for reading and libraries has not slowed down. Deb reads to her daughter's 5-6th grade special needs classroom every Wednesday. She also volunteers as the librarian at Harderwyk Ministries, working to digitally categorize their collection for optimal organization and tracking.
Her quilt will be made up of 48 library-related t-shirts she has collected since her days in the Masters of Library Science program at University of Texas, various library events across Michigan and Texas, and beloved children's book characters. Deb says this quilt will keep her warm and her memories close.
