The event will conclude with a general writing Q&A, followed by a book signing.

Hines to learn about the nuts and bolts of fantasy writing, from magic systems to world-building to the ever-important sense of wonder, with time for open Q&A at the end. He won a Hugo award in 2012. You can find him at www.jimchines.com, opens a new window.
Self-Publishing Your Sci-Fi/Fantasy Novel with Author Jean Davis | Monday, August 4, 7:00 PM, Main Library: You’ve written a book, but how do you get it into the hands of readers? We’ll discuss all the fun stuff that comes after writing: editing, formatting, cover design, distribution, and marketing. What you can do yourself, where to find resources, and what you should and shouldn’t pay for. Jean Davis writes an array of speculative fiction and plays with chickens. When not ruining fictional lives from the comfort of her writing chair, she can be found devouring books and sushi, weeding her flower garden, or picking up hundreds of sticks while attempting to avoid the abundant snake population that also shares her yard. She lives in West Michigan with her musical husband, an attention-craving terrier, and a mostly friendly flock of fluffy fowl. She has written short story collections, a space opera series, stand-alone novels, children’s books about her chickens, many projects that aren’t yet finished, and a lot of pages that you will never see.
Sci-Fi/Fantasy Authors' Roundtable | Thursday, August 21, 6:30 PM, North Branch: To round out the summer, we would like to invite anyone who has joined us for Create a Cryptid with Jacqueline Carey, Creating the Fantastic, or Self-Publishing Your Sci-Fi / Fantasy Novel to get together and discuss some of the things you are working on. Those works might include something you started from one of the previous programs or could be some of your own work that you would like to have fellow authors look over and make suggestions. This is also another great chance to make connections with fellow sci-fi & fantasy authors in the area to continue to encourage one another's writing and creation.
