The Herrick District Library is seeking a responsible, service-minded Library Aide, opens a new window to join our team in the Circulation department at the Main Library. Library Aides perform a wide range of library functions that encourage our community to connect, discover, and create.
Primary duties include assisting patrons with library card functions, solving patron account issues, and helping to maintain an inviting space for all guests. This position also provides some reader’s advisory, access to information, helps with technology on the floor and in Groundworks, and interacts with patrons while roving.
This position requires a high school diploma. Spanish language fluency is desired.
Weekly schedule: (hours may vary and there is some flexibility)
Monday 5:00-9:00pm
Tuesday 4:00-9:00pm
Wednesday 5:00-9:00pm
Friday 1:00-6:00pm
Every third Saturday 9:00-6:00pm
Occasional Sun 1:00-6:00pm (Off Tuesday when working Sunday)

Part-Time Aide, opens a new window – Collections & Digital Resources

The Herrick District Library is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Library Aide, opens a new window to join our team in the Collections & Digital Resources (CDR) department at the Main Library. This is a behind-the-scenes customer service position that succeeds through helpful collaboration and efficient work processes. Library Aides perform a wide range of library functions that encourage our community to connect, discover, and create.
Primary duties include processing materials, unpacking boxes, transferring orders, adding labels and book jackets, checking bibliographic records, entering data into the Sierra record, pairing barcodes and RFID tags, repairing damaged materials, and pulling lists of materials for withdrawal.
This position also works directly with patrons every 8th Sunday, answering questions and assisting patrons with finding materials. This position may occasionally be asked to assist with the public when other departments are in need.
This position requires a high school diploma.
Weekly schedule: (hours may vary and there is some flexibility)
Four days per week, Monday-Friday, day off is flexible, 8:00-5:00pm
Occasional Sunday, 1:00-6:00pm

Part-Time Aide – Community Relations

The Herrick District Library is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Library Aide to join our team in the Community Relations department at the Main Library. Library Aides perform a wide range of library functions that encourage our community to connect, discover, and create.
Primary duties include organizing and maintaining physical supply inventories and digital files, representing the library at occasional outreach events, checking in and shelving library materials, and assisting with social media posts and reports.
This position requires a high school diploma and strong verbal and written communication skills. Spanish language proficiency, photography skills, and basic business or journalistic writing experience are preferred.
Weekly schedule: (hours may vary and there is some flexibility)
20 hours per week at the Main Library Monday-Friday between 8:00-5:00pm
Every 3rd Saturday 9:00-2:00 at the North Branch
Occasional Sun 1:00-6:00pm (Off Tuesday when working Sunday)

Business Office Assistant I
$20.76 - $26.54/hour with benefits
40 hours/week
General Summary:
The Herrick District Library is seeking a responsible, detail-oriented Assistant to join our administrative team. The Business Office Assistant performs higher level clerical tasks requiring deep knowledge and experience with departmental policies and procedures. Must be able to keep detailed records, generate reports, find discrepancies, and reconcile accounts. Accuracy is imperative.
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree.
Essential Functions:
- Positively represents the library
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrates continuous learning and keeps up-to-date with skills and best practices
- Reliably handles confidential information
- Maintains accurate records on an ongoing basis, including (but not limited to) budgets and patron and employee records
- Reconciles cash and prepares corresponding reports
- Codes and enters data into financial software to complete AP, AR and GL
- Makes recommended item purchases; receives, processes, verifies and reconciles invoices, making sure that purchases comply with the library’s purchasing policy
- Assists in Human Resources functions including record-keeping, coordinating new hire on boarding, communicates with and acts as staff liaison with benefit providers
- Works with website and web tools to reflect current procedures and available resources to ensure quality patron experiences with the library
- Approves room and technology bookings
- Encourages others to follow library policies and uses good judgement when deviating from official policies and procedures
- Contributes to the development of departmental procedures and best practices
- Gathers data and creates statistical reports for the purpose of measuring success
- Assists in the preparation of administrative meetings, such as Board meetings and staff in-service
- Works with manager to set and accomplish goals to meet strategic initiatives
- Miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as required or assigned
Schedule:
- 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
- Occasional Sunday
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions.
- Occasionally requires lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently requires use of office equipment as well and long periods of sitting, standing or walking as needed.
- Occasionally requires stooping and crouching.
- Occasionally requires reaching, including overhead reaching.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- High proficiency in technology including but not limited to spreadsheets, word processing accounting software, library software
- Excellent attention to detail specifically in data entry and processing
