The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (asalh.org) selects a theme for Black History Month every year. In 2023, the selected theme is “Black Resistance.” This theme highlights the ways Black Americans have fought systematic oppression in the United States and beyond, through "armed resistance, voluntary emigration, nonviolence, education, literature, sports, media, and legislation/politics."
