PressReader Newspaper Resources

PressReader is an online resource where patrons can access newspapers and magazines from all over the world. With a library card, this free subscription can give anyone access to publications from over 120 different countries and in many different languages. With articles, magazines, and news from many fields of interests, PressReader has a variety of options for any type of reader at any point in their day. Many popular newspaper options include the NY Times, The Economist, USA Today, and The Guardian.

For example, PressReader allows users to download articles and stories to their phone or laptop, so that they can access them offline. This is a great feature for when there is minimal access to WiFi whether you are on the go, or an avid traveler! PressReader has a large selection of travel magazines and newspapers from as mainstream as National Geographic, to as niche as a local newspaper from the specific area someone would travel to. This makes it easy for travelers to stay up-to-date on happenings in their destination, but also read up on itineraries or local recommendations before or during their trip.

There are over 7,000 publications on the platform so there are endless options of genres and reading materials to choose from. Users can also use the “My Topics” tool to set their preferences for the types of content they enjoy reading. This also allows readers to stay up to date in their preferred topic because PressReader will add new stories and articles to the feed related to that of their preferred topic. Readers can even link their email accounts to get notifications for when new articles or magazines are published to the platform in their area of interest.

If you would like to set up an account with PressReader, HDL has a subscription for library cardholders. Follow this link from the library’s website to get started: https://herrickdl.org/resource/#pressreader-digital-newspapers
