Do you find yourself forgetting things that are on your to-do list? How about getting distracted while working, or having trouble focusing? If this sounds like you, do not fret! Herrick District Library has a new platform to help called Brain HQ, focused on improving your brain health. The resource is free to all library card holders through the library website.
Brain HQ is backed by 30 years of research. Through a series of computer games that focus on motor function, memory, attention, brain speed, people skills, intelligence, and navigation skills, this platform is scientifically proven to improve brain health through simple exercises.
There are games in each type of brain skill aimed at strengthening your performance in that specific category. You can either select these games specifically, or you can use the Personal Trainer feature on the website. This feature gives you an optimized schedule for how often to practice certain skills, and for how long. Brain HQ’s Personal Trainer feature will also tell you which skills to prioritize after you fill out the questionnaire about what you would like to achieve through the platform.
The games themselves allow you to play a few rounds to earn a certain amount of stars to pass the level. Once you have passed, Brain HQ analyzes your performance in the games and compares it to your previous performance. As you progress through the games they will start to become more difficult as you enhance your skills.
Brain HQ is proven to be effective because it drills memory, teaches compensatory strategies, and targets the specific roots of memory and thinking. The platform is built on the capability of the human brain to change and adapt throughout life, known as neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity allows the brain to develop skills necessary to retain information and sharpen focus.
