Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writing Series

If you ask an HDL librarian what their favorite genre is, there’s a 50% chance you’ll hear “Sci-Fi/Fantasy!”  So, this summer, we’re celebrating our love of the genre with some of our favorite local science fiction and fantasy writers.

Whether you want to learn about writing from the pros, get a book signed, or gush over your favorite genre with other sci-fi/fantasy lovers - everyone is welcome to join in our Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writing events.

Here’s who’s visiting HDL this summer:

Jacqueline Carey

The event will conclude with a general writing Q&A, followed by a book signing.

Jean Davis

Self-Publishing Your Sci-Fi/Fantasy Novel – August 4, 7:00pm at the main library

You’ve written a book, but how do you get it into the hands of readers? We’ll discuss all the fun stuff that comes after writing: editing, formatting, cover design, distribution, and marketing. What you can do yourself, where to find resources, and what you should and shouldn’t pay for.

Jean Davis writes an array of speculative fiction and plays with chickens. When not ruining fictional lives from the comfort of her writing chair, she can be found devouring books and sushi, weeding her flower garden, or picking up hundreds of sticks while attempting to avoid the abundant snake population that also shares her yard. She lives in West Michigan with her musical husband, an attention-craving terrier, and a mostly friendly flock of fluffy fowl.

She has written short story collections, a space opera series, stand-alone novels, children’s books about her chickens, many projects that aren’t yet finished, and a lot of pages that you will never see. You can find her at www.jeanddavis.blogspot.com .
