What I’m Listening To – Jan ’25

Hello all, and welcome again to another rendition of "What I'm Listening To". Some of you may know how much I love food. I mean I LOVE to cook. I also really LOVE music. So, why not dive into the best of both worlds? This month, I decided I would dive into musical artists that have gone onto make their own cookbooks. You will be surprised by some of these, I can tell you that!

"Lay Low" - Snoop Dogg (The Best of Snoop Dogg)

Snoop Dogg, Snoop Doggy Dog, Snoop Lion, or just plain Snoop, this man is one of the smoothest rappers in the game. His life started on the streets, where he rose as one of SoCal's best rappers ever. He spread out his interests to include coaching AAU football, a reggae album, and rubbing elbows with Martha Stewart. Yes, THE Martha Stewart. They're actually great friends. His cookbook is called "From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg's Kitchen". I have yet to make a dish from this, but I can tell you I'm definitely getting this.

"Lady Marmalade" - Patti Labelle (Semi-pro original motion picture soundtrack)

Patti Labelle is one of the best soul singers ever. There's a reason she's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She can just straight up belt it out. Songs like "Lady Marmalade" and "On My Own" are what made her iconic. What I didn't realize is that she also has a collection of cookbooks. Definitely gonna try some of hers out.

"Fancy" - Reba Mcentire (Rumor Has It)

Reba Mcentire started her career as a country artist, becoming one of the more popular female artists of her time. She, like Snoop Dogg, decided to widen their interests to include working on multiple TV shows, along with one of my personal favorite movies, Tremors. She then decided to come out with a cookbook that featured not just recipes, but also life lessons.

"The House That Built Me" - Miranda Lambert (Revolution)

I'll admit I haven't really listened to Miranda Lambert. Maybe her song was on in a bar and I didn't know it. This is one of those I know OF her, just couldn't tell you one song of hers. This is her most popular song ever, from what the internet told me. However, I HAVE read this cookbook, and I thought she had a lot of good recipes, so why not include her?

"Beauty School Dropout" - Frankie Avalon (Grease)

Frankie Avalon made his claim to fame by being a crooner in the 50's and 60's, but I really found out about him when I watched the movie "Grease". His whole number about a girl dropping out of school while singing to her was great. After his singing career was over, he got into cookbooks. I love Italian food, and if you do too I suggest picking his book up!
