Time Loop Movies Like Groundhog Day

I always thought the Groundhog Day holiday should be a bigger deal. Maybe I'm a sucker for quirky traditions (dating back to the 16th century!). Perhaps I think groundhogs are cute. They are also known as a thickwood badger, Canada marmot, or my favorite, whistlepig. Or possibly it's the hype around Groundhog Day, the Bill Murray movie, making it seem like there should be more excitement than just the headlines I read on February 2.

Groundhog Day does a great job of representing the folksy feel of a small town brimming with excitement. Though, the true inspiration might be the plot device used. While it is not the first time loop movie, it has become synonymous with the genre. If you're not familiar, time loops allow a character to experience a span of time, which is then repeated, sometimes more than once, with some hope of breaking out of the cycle of repetition. If you haven't seen Groundhog Day, check it out along with these other time-looping films. Meanwhile, I'll be planning my trip to Punxsutawney, PA.
