Yoga at the Library

September is National Yoga Awareness Month, and this month the library is getting on board with some fun yoga programs for all ages. Yoga is a great practice to begin (or continue) at any age. Not only is it great for strength, flexibility, and balance, but yoga has also been shown to improve mental health, concentration and attention span as well as reducing stress, boosting self-esteem, and improving quality of sleep.

This month the North Branch of Herrick Library is hosting two yoga programs. Deb Weiss-Gelmi of Sing Song Yoga will present an early literacy-based yoga class for preschoolers which teaches simple stretches interwoven with yoga-inspired play, songs, and picture books on September 13th and 9:30am. You can find the details here. Deb will return on September 27th in the afternoon to present a similar program intended for older kids ages 6-11. This program will include more complicated yoga positions in combination with songs and books. You can find the details for this program here

Whether you attend these fun yoga programs or not, the library has a variety of yoga books appropriate for kids of all ages! Check out some of these fun ones while you celebrate National Yoga Awareness Month with us.
