25 Library Resources to Know

In honor of our 25th anniversary, here are 25 library resources you might not know are available:

  1. ABC Mouse - Parents, you've seen the commercials for this subscription based early learning resource. Did you know you can access it free from inside either library building via the library's website?
  2. Adobe Creative Cloud software and other editing tools - Groundworks has several laptops with Adobe software installed. What would you like to create? Want to edit your favorite photo? Create or edit a video? Lay out a zine? Animate a motion graphic? Using the laptops in Groundworks you can both learn how and create your masterpiece.
  3. Ancestry (library edition) - Advertisements abound for this fee-based geneology resource. Save on a subiscription through the library! Access Ancestry Library Edition free from inside either library building.
  4. Audio Enabled Books - Audiobooks that live in print, these special items transform ordinary print book into an all-in-one read-along. No need for computers, tablets, or CDs—children simply push a button to both listen and read.
  5. Auto Repair Source - Repair information and schedules, diagrams, parts and labor estimates, service alerts, and recalls. Covers thousands of domestic and imported vehicles.
  6. Book Group to Go - Each bag contains 12 copies of a book, discussion questions, book reviews and information on the author of the book. Reserve one bag to cover your whole group!
  7. Books for All Ages in Spanish - HDL has books, movies and more in Spanish for kids, teens and adults!
  8. CreativeBug - Thousands of award-winning online art & craft video classes taught by recognized design experts and artists.
  9. Digital Library Card - Register for a library card to help you access digital books, audiobooks, movies, music, and more.
  10. Digital Music - Download music you can keep using freegal or try before you buy checking out music from hoopla.
  11. Home Improvement Reference Center - The DIYers resource for maintenance, remodeling, electrical, plumbing, wood & outdoor projects, decorating, and home & garden. 
  12. Kids' Mode - Kids can find their own digital books, movies and more, navigating safely with kids mode using Hoopla, Libby (formerly Overdrive), or Kanopy.
  13. Kindles - Check out multiple books in one, all on one tablet. HDL checks out Kindle paperwhites pre-loaded with books for adults or teens.
  14. Libby Partner Libraries - You may know that you can borrow books from the Lakeland Library Cooperative, but did you know that you can borrow from multiple libraries for digital items? Follow these instructions to get started.

LinkedIn Learning - Formerly known as Lynda.com, the new LinkedIn Learning is available on your computer, or on your tablet or smart phone as the LinkedIn Learning app. Watch thousands of video tutorials learning from industry professionals on everything from accounting to graphic design, leadership to video production.
  17. Mango Languages - Learn one of 70+ languages including ESL and Pirate, free, with your library card! Read the review from PC Magazine or check it out for yourself.
  18. Mobile hotspots - take WIFI with you on the go by checking out one of our mobile hotspots.
  19. Morningstar - Find financial reviews and analysis on mutual funds and more available free with Morningstar. Check out these tips on how to best use the resource.
  20. Points of View Reference Center - Containing resources that present multiple sides of an issue, this database helps people assess and develop persuasive arguments and essays, better understand controversial issues and develop analytical thinking skills.
  21. Press Reader - Check out thousands of digital newspapers in an easy-to-read page view format in a browser or download the PressReader app.  
  22. Recording Equipment - Want to start a podcast, record your story, or interview a family member for posterity? Visit Groundworks and learn to use their recording equipment.
  23. Small Engine Repair Reference Center - Lawn mower or snow blower got you down? Find detailed, user-friendly repair guides for a wide range of small engines in this free online resource. 
  24. Tumblebooks - eBooks for kids with animation, narration, and are read-aloud enabled. Available in English or Spanish. Each story comes with puzzles and games to support reading comprehension.
  25. Tumblemath - Math themed eBooks for kids with animation, narration, and are read-aloud enabled. Each story comes with illustrated online quizzes and lesson plans to support math skills.
