    The Herrick District Library offers free access to the library edition of the Ancestry website. This service is only offered in the building on library computers. There is no limit to how long or how often you can access the website, other than the computer access limits.

    The Herrick District Library offers free access to the New York Times online newspaper.

    1. If this your first time accessing the newspaper, you will need your library card number and PIN to login if you are outside of the library.
    2. Create a free account with the New York Times when you Register your NYTimes Account.
    3. Then read The New York Times online in the library.
    4. Or if you are outside the library activate your NYT 3-day pass.
    5. This pass allows you free access to the paper online or in the New York Times app for 3 days.
    6. After those 3 days, you can go back and get another 3-day subscription.

    1. To access hundreds of national and global newspapers for free, use your library card number and PIN to log in to the Lakeland Library Cooperative portal.
    2. Then choose PressReader.
    3. Or you can download the PressReader app on your smart phone or tablet.

    1. Download the Kanopy app on your smart device or tablet or access the Kanopy website on your computer.
    2. Once you have the app installed or are at the website, you will need to create a free account using an email address and a password.
    3. Then you will need your library card number and PIN.
    4. You can check out movies and TV shows for 3 days. 

    Our current checkout limit for Kanopy is 8 per month.

    1. Download the Hoopla Digital app on your smart device or tablet, or access the Hoopla Digital website on your computer.
    2. Once you open the app or are on the website, you will need to create a free account using an email address and a password, then provide your library card number to start checking out.
    3. Checkouts can be downloaded to smart devices and tablets to be enjoyed offline, but cannot be downloaded to computers or laptops. 

    eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital graphic novels can be checked out for 21 days, digital music for 7 days, and digital movies and TV shows for 3 days. 

    Our current checkout limit for Hoopla Digital is 15 per month.

    You can use the Libby app on your phone or tablet or the OverDrive website to send books to your Kindle.

    1. You will need to be logged in to the app or the website to check out eBooks.
    2. Once you check an eBook out, the app or website will ask you how you would like to read your eBook, and from there you can choose to send it to your Kindle.
    3. Once you choose Kindle, the app or the website will switch you over to Amazon, where you will need to be logged in to your Amazon account. 
    4. Choose Get Library Book and the next time you refresh your Kindle while on Wi-Fi, your eBook will download.

    To get eBooks on other eReader devices, please visit the OverDrive eReader Help Page for specific instructions or stop by the library with your device. 

    To get eBooks and eAudiobooks on your tablet or smart device: 

    1. First, install the Libby by Overdrive app.
    2. Once Libby is installed, open the app and find your library. You can search by library name, city, or zip code.
    3. After choosing The Midwest Collaborative and Herrick District Library, log in with your library card number.
    4. You are now ready to browse and search for items.
    5. Once you find a title you are interested in, tap Borrow. Borrowed titles appear on your Shelf and download to the app automatically when you’re connected to Wi-Fi so you can read them offline as well. 
    6. When you open an eBook, you can choose to read it in Libby or have it sent to a Kindle device or app.

    To view digital magazines with Libby by OverDrive: 

    1. Download the Libby app to your smart device or tablet or you can use the Libby website to view magazines in your browser.
    2. Login with your library card number to browse and check out. Libby has a built-in digital magazine reader with additional features, like pulling out article text to make it easier to read.
