  • Get a Library Card

    You can apply for a library card online or to get a library card in-person, you will need either: 

    • A current Michigan driver’s license, Michigan ID card, or permanent resident card with current street address and name. 

    OR one of the following photographic identification documents: 

    • Out-of-state driver’s license
    • Photo ID issued by an institution such as a school or place of employment 
    • Passport
    • Michigan parole ID 

    AND one of the following documents with your name and current street address: 

    • Recent utility bill
    • Lease agreement 
    • Printed checks/bank statement 
    • Recent local property tax bill
    • Voter registration card
    • Hospitalization or insurance card 
    • Automobile registration

    Minors with a Michigan driver's license may register for their own library card. All other juvenile cards must be co-signed by an adult with the above documents. 

    You can apply for a library card online for yourself or a minor you are the legal guardian for using your name, current local address, and a government ID number. If you have issues or questions, you can contact the library online or by calling 616-355-3700.

  • Your Library Card

    Your PIN is usually set to the last four digits of your phone number. If that does not worktry resetting your PIN online by going to the library account login page and clicking "Forgot your PIN?".

    Your Herrick District Library card can be renewed online. This process may take 24 to 72 hours.

    Otherwise, give us a call at (616) 355-3700 to renew your Herrick District Library card over the phone. Please have your library card number ready. 

    To make a payment, log in to your library account. If this is your first time logging in online, you will need to create a user ID. After creating your user ID, you can use it or your library card number to log in. Your PIN is usually the last four digits of your phone number. Once logged in: 

    • In “My Library Dashboard,” scroll down and select “Fees” (in the menu on the left side). Mobile users may have to log in again. 
    • Select “Pay Fees.” 

    Card holders may opt in to receive email notices or sign up for text notifications when items are due, when holds are “ready for pickup,” or when items are overdue.

    To ensure that you receive email notices, please be sure to verify your email address by clicking on the link in your email.

    As a courtesy, you can sign up to receive email reminders or to receive text notifications when an item is coming due. If items are not returned on their due date, overdue notices will be sent via automated phone call, email, or text message (depending on your selected preference).

    *Failure to receive a notice of any type does not waive your responsibility for the timely return of materials or from any subsequent fines, fees, or charges.  

    Fines under $10.00 will not affect card holder privileges. If an account has a balance of $10.00 or over, certain services (including item check outs) will become unavailable. Once the account balance is resolved, full access will be restored.
